Publish date: 2024-06-11

Samuel Robinson II was the second of nine children born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina on the tenth day of March in the year of nineteen hundred and forty to the late Samuel and Dorothy Robinson. His death was preceded by his daughter, Sarita Michelle, sisters Genieva Gregory and Juanita Waller, brothers Robert, James and Waide (Janice).

Samuel enjoyed being outdoors and was a sports enthusiast in high school. He played football, baseball and ran track. He later attended Kittrell College, a historically black college in Kittrell, North Carolina. In college he was known as “The Train” for his speed and tenacity on the field. He was well-known on and off the field and his brothers looked up to him, following his footsteps closely.

After attending college, Samuel pursued a career with Binswanger Glass where he perfected his craft as a master glazier cutting, installing, and removing glass and mirror. He expanded his craft into installing doors, windshields and large wall panels of glass. As he continued this work, he took on another trade working at the Railroad, Norfolk Southern. Being the extremely hard worker he was, Samuel worked both professions simultaneously for ten years.

In nineteen hundred and eighty, Samuel followed his dream and ventured into entrepreneurship. He left both Binswanger and Norfolk Southern and established Sam’s Mobile Glass and Mirror. He became well-known as

“Sam the Glassman”

for all the beautiful mirrors he installed and tables he designed in the Hampton Roads area for over 35 years. It wasn’t until two thousand and sixteen that Samuel decided to retire and dissolve the business.
